How To Write A Great Blog When Brand New To Blogging
So, you want to know how to write a great blog? Okay, I got you!
With so much information and books to read it would probably take you literally hours or even days depending on your schedule to really dig deep into learning the entire how to blog education.
The reason why I say that is because I didn’t learn blogging through reading blogging books and buying every single blogging guru’s courses on blogging 101, I tried and it did nothing for me but confused me even more making it harder for me when I first started to be confident enough to write.
It wasn’t until my partner and business coach Rich Guzman told me that in order for me to learn blogging I had to bite the bullet, study my competitors and just get it going.
My first blog AnastaciaHauldridge.com back in 2010 wasn’t successful in fact at the time I had a really boring crappy blog branded with pink and white theme and the only type of content I wrote about was about what I was doing for the day, my network marketing business, law of attraction or which guest speaker was going to be on my talk show on YouTube.
Here is a screen shot of my old blog…eek! LOL! I laugh now but I didn’t know what I was doing back in 2010.
Though I thought my writing was going to turn out to be something great it really didn’t and ended up being a waste of my time and energy.  I brought this to my business coach’s attention and he recommended I start from scratch with a inexpensive networked blog with a WordPress platform and write about things I was knowledgeable about and topics people on the internet are already searching for.
At first I didn’t understand what he meant until he started teaching me the basics of blogging, SEO, and Keyword Research.  Rich knew the secrets to generating leads on the internet and as he started teaching me what I should do I already was picking up new skills I didn’t know existed that would increase my own value to the marketplace.
I remember my first 30 days where he just said, “Honey…you are going to do a 30 day challenge where you are going to find 30 keywords to write about as a blog post and you must write these posts consistently without fail.”
My first reaction was like, OH MY GOD! and then my second reaction I was trying to think what or where do I even start writing about for 30 days? See I never done this kind of thing before and now I had to be accountable to myself as an entrepreneur and blogger to complete this first challenge.
Well I managed to write and complete 30 blog posts the first month and after I did that Rich gave me my next challenge which was to write 2 blog posts a day for the next 30 days. Now things was getting serious and I really had to buckle down on my keyword research find some great topics to write about not once a day but twice a day.
For 60 days I written value based type of posts the helped people with advice, training, tips and tutorials on their problems that was related to my industry which was network marketing and personal development.
Suddenly, my first few leads starting coming in and I was generating leads from everything I wrote about. Â I was like Whoa! Dude this is awesome I generated my first few leads from just blogging. Â I didn’t want to stop I got so excited I wanted to know more about blogging and learn more about lead generation and that was when Rich said okay here is your third challenge.
The third challenge was for the next 30 days after that to write one blog post and wrap it around a video that I made myself on the next set of keywords and put all the things I learned into those 30 videos as training to help and teach others.
That means I was working for a full 90 Day Challenge on developing my blogging skills to write content that was generating leads and sales.  Today I fully understand why Rich put me through all of that writing work and this is exactly how I teach my new students who are learning blogging.
See people think “challenges” are something you can start and then stop when you feel like it but there is a consequence to that behavior.  The #1 rule I learned through my 90-day blogging challenge was to do it without fail.
If I even missed one day of blogging, Rich wanted me to be accountable to myself and therefore I had to make up the missed blog post the following day on top of my post that I was supposed to write that day.
Can you imagine what it would have been like if I missed 7 days of not blogging consistently? Â I leave it to your imagination, but it would have been hell for me to make up all those posts for the challenge I’m sure. Â Truth be told it did happen to me not in the first part of the challenge but the second where I had to write 2 blog posts a day, that’s when I really got frustrated and uncomfortable and it hit me hard.
But you know what all that was supposed to happen, I was supposed to be uncomfortable in order to grow my blogging skills and the discipline to being consistent with blogging.
Anyway, that is my story about how I came into blogging as a newbie and how I started and reached blog success. Today I just write a blog post each day and I generate leads and sales on autopilot.
Here is a screen shot of my blog today…
Now let’s get into laying out the basics and the necessary steps to get started with your own blog success.
Step #1 ~ Pick A Blogging Platform
To be honest with you I prefer WordPress over another blogging platform only because it is very simple and easy to set up. I say simple for me since Rich and I know how to get it up and running from a techno geek’s standpoint but for newbies we recommend Digital Business Lounge.
This is the best blogging platform for new aspiring bloggers because it has everything you need in one place.
- Website Builder
- Cloud Hosting
- Marketing Tools
- Hundreds of Site Themes
- Quality WordPress 101 Video Tutorials Step-by-Step
- High Converting Lead Capture Pages
- Lead Tracking & Stats System
- Domain, Hosting, and more…!
Step #2 ~ Pick A Theme That Is Simple But Attractive
Lots of times new bloggers will spend hours searching the web for the most flashy and colorful themes for their blog and I’m telling you just go with something simple when your brand new.
It doesn’t have to have all the bells and whistles now, that can come later we just want to get the darn thing up and running. So pick a simple theme and lets move on to the next step because we got more ground to cover.
Step #3 ~ Start Your First 90 Day Challenge
Now that you got everything set up your ready to start writing your first blog posts. Â Keep in mind that you must understand that not everyone’s blog post writing skills are exactly the same. Â This comes from a personal writers perspective and if you can write a sentence in your own words as you are speaking to one person you can then blog.
Experts like to over complicate internet marketing education but I am keeping it as simple as I can for you as a beginner.
