There are fears around prospecting strangers no one can put their finger on to overcome.
It’s not easy looking for people to talk to all the time and asking them to buy what you have to offer.Â It’s not easy dealing with the objections and trying to convince people that what you do is amazing and works.Â It’s not your fault it was and will always be an old way of prospecting which is uncomfortable but thanks to the internet you don’t have to do it the way you been taught.

Earlier today Rich and I was going over some of the worst mistakes we used to make whenÂ we used to be involved in MLM andÂ boy… these mistakes well let’s just say we learned alot of what not to do again. Â TypicallyÂ whenever someone joins a MLM business or direct sales opportunity they are told to do the following prospecting methods:
- Make a contact list of 25-100 names and telephone numbers
- Go out and talk to people within 3 feet (3 foot rule)
- Do flip chart presentations whenever the opportunity opens (No appointment just right there on the spot)
- Drop Cards
- Collect business cards
- Doing home parties
- Buy MLM Genealogy leads
- and the list goes on just to name a few.
Some of my mistakes I can share with you personally are really out there where one time I had to do flip chart presentations on the spot. Â Oh yeah, when I was 19 I used to wait in the driveway after my neighborsÂ arrivedÂ home from work and as soon as they get out of their cars I would snatch their car keys from them and tell them they can’t go in the house until they given me the opportunity to show them how my business can make them rich.
Ehmm…word to the wise don’t do that with strangers you might get into a confrontation.
I literally was so crazy hungry for those signups that I would host open house parties and hand out “Your Invited!” invitation postcards to every door in my neighborhood even to theÂ homeless people on the street just toÂ come see my presentation.
All I ended up with was aÂ house full of free loaders and negative vampiresÂ that didn’t buy squat! I felt awkward and my self esteem was going down to the point I wanted to quit network marketing all together. I was just about ready to give up because I wasn’t having any success or any fun building a home based business.
At thatÂ time when I was actively involved with my MLM company I didn’t have webinars and social media tools like we have today to help us get leads.
You think you were doing bad thinkÂ again I fell flat on my ass by prospecting all prospects…and these people were dead beat contacts who had no clue what I was doing or even qualified.
I was only modeling you know “Monkey See Monkey Do” what my sponsor was advising me to do back then. Â All the advice I ever gotten from my supporters in my uplineÂ wore me out andÂ all my contacts on my contact sheet went into the witness protection program and didn’t want anything to do with me or hear about my MLM ever again.
Then in 2010 I took my business online and started making videos working with with Rich Guzman and he begins to coach me on internet marketing. Mind you I already had my own doubts about sponsoring people since I failed in the past and Rich was teaching me a new way of prospecting called Attraction Marketing.
Prospecting VS Attraction Marketing
What is Attraction Marketing you ask? Well, it is a marketing strategy that you use in which solves peoples problems making you become the authority in your niche market. Â This strategy is effective for both online and offline businesses today since technology in business is at a higher demand in advertising.
With prospecting as I demonstrated a few examples earlier in the beginning your basically going out to find a prospective customer chasing people to buy from you. Â But with Attraction Marketing you are not chasing anyone instead its the other way around and your prospects are now
